MUSEUM DE LEYMEBAMBA

The Museum Leymebamba, inaugurated in June of the 2000, houses those more than 200 mummies and its funeral offerings, recovered in 1997 of the Lagoon of the Condors by means of the archaeological project of emergency directed by the Center Mallqui. The rescue tasks allowed to recover for the local history an archaeological valuable collection that was in risk of disappearing due to the vandal action of huaqueros and unscrupulous visitors. Starting from an initiative of The Bioanthropology Foundation Peru-center Mallqui, the construction of the Museum Leymebamba was possible thanks to the financial contribution coming from a group of Austrian citizens and of other private donations.
