SACRED FIELD YUNGAY

In the route toward the north, for the alley of Huaylas, he/she goes by places where they were the cities destroyed by the earthquake and alluvium of May 31 of 1970.

The vision is startling. Thousands of tons of rocks and earth cover the houses, buildings and temples totally of those that were the picturesque and gentle cities of Ranrahirca and Yungay, where they lie buried their almost 25 thousand residents.

Toward the west, to the bottom of the hilltop where he/she is the cemetery, a great sculpture of Christ he/she appears with the arms extended in pathetic expression of pity. Toward the east, it appears formidable and threatening the snowy summit of Huascarán from whose mass came off with the earthquake tons of rocks and of snow that they caused the tragedy.
