The presence of the panatahuas in Corongo

Homage to educating Julio Collazos Romero.

Through this article, I surrender a desert homage to an educator that with their simplicity, it exalts the cultural value of Corongo, mainly related to their folclor through multiple notes and of books in those that it demonstrates their sincere love to the terruño. To him I owe him/her the happy idea of beginning in the investigation Corongo it has more than enough. I have had big satisfactions until today's day, because throughout these years I have gathered diverse works that try on Corongo, ordered by times by means of photocopies. It is for this reason, presently article desire to refer on a print very well-known folclórica for us, like they are Panatahuas that annually become present during the employer festivity of June 29, jointly with the devil, official, San Miguel and the pallas, they supplement the well-known singular sampedrano.

Panatahuas according to bibliographical data, a town selvícola whose cultural likenesses have not been identified fully was, stiller, its etymological origin is ignored. It is said that during the XVII century they inhabited among the rivers Coyumba and Monsoon, flowing of the left margin of the river Huallaga, in the head of the river Pachitea in the department of Huanuco. In 1557 before the penetration of the Franciscan missionaries, they burned their houses and they went into in the floresta. Newly in 1631 they began to offer them welcome and the Franciscans were able this way to settle down in the mouth of Chinchao. This change of attitude on the part of Panatahuas, the militancy of other ethnic groups dropped. In total the Franciscans founded eight missions in the earth of Panatahuas. In 1691 they were hardly about two hundred Panatahuas in four small towns. In the year of 1704 all had returned to the floresta due to the hostilities of Shipibos and Cashibos against the Franciscan missions. It is possible that Panatahuas fused with other tribes or they incorporated to the population of the targets. Panatahuas cultivated corn, yucca, they were recolectores of bee honey and natural products, they fished with weapons arrojadizas (arch, darts, he/she rushes, and harpoon) and in the production of these objects and their macanas used chonta wood. They used to shine bracelets, bone necklaces and the men were crossed the nose with a thin bone and I release. These informations are in the Encyclopedic Dictionary of Alberto's Peru Taurus of the Pine, 'Franciscan Chronicles and of the II visit Pastoral of Sacred Toribio of Mogrovejo to Corongo.'

These references don't give the certainty of affirming that the warring dance of Panatahuas arrived to floor coronguino through the contact that stayed with the huanuqueños who were obrajes proprietors in Corongo according to the document of 1594 in visit pastoral, where the existence of the current temple of San Pedro Apostle of Corongo is indicated. For this reason, he/she wanted to reiterate that could be speaking of the true origin of the dance of Panatahuas, taken root in floor coronguino, for not existing city or tribe silvícola in the city of Huanuco with this denomination.
