CLIMATE
The city of Abancay has a temperate climate, with a half annual maximum temperature of 23,8°C (74,8ºF) and a minimum of 11,7°C (53ºF). The season of rains begins in November and it concludes in March.

Terrestrial: Lima-Nasca-Puquio-Abancay: 912 km (14 hours in bus); Lima-Ayacucho-Andahuaylas-Abancay: Air 956 km (22 hours in bus): Not there are regular neither direct flights. It is possible to arrive by air using the route Lima-Cusco (1 hour) and then to follow the tract by lorry Cusco-Abancay 198 km (4 hours and 30 minutes in car).

LOCATION, EXTENSION AND POPULATION

The department of Apurímac is located in the south, it borders with Cusco, Arequipa and Ayacucho. It possesses an uneven geography, it is located between immense hills and deep abysses. HISTORICAL BRIEF REVIEW

PLATES AND TYPICAL DRINKS

The inhabitants of Apurímac are characterized by their good one to eat and hospitality toward who requests it to him. TOURIST CALENDAR

1 at January 6. Festejos of New Year in Andahuaylas. February. Carnivals. The town is overturned to the streets to participate of Gunsa (it knocks down it mounts). It is the only opportunity in that Apurímac shows all its folklore with street disguised processions and dancing for all the neighborhoods. In Andahuaylas the women and men dance in gangs during day and night. In Grau, they are organized bullfights and the eve is practiced the "torril velacuy" (veiled to the bulls) to drive away to the bad spirits and to avoid that they cause damages to the bullfighters. In representing Aymaraes of different districts they face with deep, by way of bereavement, being wounded and contusos at the end of this bereavement.

May 13. The Virgin's of Fátima Festivity. Great folklore unfolding, especially music and it dances. From different places of the department they arrive to Grau musical numerous groups to show their art.

November 3. Day of Abancay with sport, folkloric and social diverse activities. There are also fight of roosters and bullfights.

December 8. Concepción's Virgin's Festivity. In Cotabambas it is danced before in the main square during three or four nights and after the party.

December 25. During Christmas Eve and navidad, the inhabitants of Cotabambas, leave to the streets to dance with the disguised dancers. They are carried out adorations to the boy in big concentrations where the whole town sings and he/she prays. There are also processions, artificial fires and banquets with typical plates.

OTHER TOURIST ATTRACTIVENESS OF THE DEPARTMENT
