I SHIELD OF THE DEPARTMENT DE AREQUIPA
The department of Arequipa presents a varied relief. He/she begins in the coastal desert and he/she rises in Andes reaching great height in the summits of their snowy ones and volcanos.
Well-known as the City Blanca for their beautiful white walls of ashlar, a stone of volcanic origin, Arequipa rests in the skirts of the imposing volcanos Chachani and Misti and of snowy Pichu Pichu. In downtown, Cultural declared Patrimony of the Humanity for UNESCO in the year 2000, they can it turns temples and colonial large houses of style mestizo Baroque, as well as Santa Catalina's Monastery, a Spanish city in miniature with stone back streets, beautiful patios and squares. Located to only 3 hours and 45 minutes of the city, the Valley and Canyon of Colca is one of the most extraordinary destinations in the country. In pre-Hispanic times the department was inhabited by Collaguas and Cabins; today, the inhabitants have known how to conserve their colonial churches as those of Yanque, Lari and Madrigal and they continue dressing with beautiful suits. In the valley also, they are practiced adventure sports as mountain cycling, trekking and canotaje, and in Cruz of the Condor the majestic flight of the condors can be appreciated.
Other places of interest in the department are Petroglifos of Dead Bull, the valley of the volcanos of Andagua and the Canyon of Cotahuasi.
