CITY DE CAJAMARCA
Nowadays Cajamarca is the most important city in the north Peruvian mountain. A time of economic growth impelled by the development of the auriferous mining lives, its bovine traditional livestock, the unirrigated land (with the corn like main cultivation) agriculture and, more recently, the tourism. Cajamarca is known by its colonial and Baroque architecture, the reflective city the Spanish influence in the architecture of the Cathedral, San Francisco's temples, Nativity and Recoleta; and in its houses of two floors and roof to two waters. To the east of the city, he/she is the district of Bathrooms of the Inca, famous for the thermal waters where the Inca accustomed to take a bath and also because there they are the Windows of Otuzco, group of the old inhabitants' of the place niches.
In the county of Cajamarca he/she is the archaeological complex of Cumbemayo, vestige of ceremonial altars and aqueducts Inca pre and the San Pablo's county, the ceremonial complex of Kuntur Wasi, also Inca pre, of several squares and platforms sustained by walls of stone of great size.
Their Temples have a special characteristic: their steeples you never concluded, because in the Viceroyalty a periodic sum of money was provided to the unconcluded churches; the Cathedral and the temple of Nativity are clear exemplary. Their religious constructions date of half-filled of the XVII century and principles of the XVIII one.
Their cathedral was built in the XVII century with Santa Catalina's name, and it possesses a facade of stone of volcanic origin. It has five bells distributed by towers. To the interior, they are of attraction the ships with images of Santa Rosa from Lima, San Martin of Porres and Carmen's Virgin mainly.
The hill Santa Apolonia is a natural mirador that dominates the city. In the summit there is a white small chapel dedicated to the Virgin of Fátima. It is ascended her through a stairways of stone of about 300 steps from the Square of Weapons, although you can also ascend in car.
The Room of the Rescue, in downtown, is the remarkable only print that subsists of the Inca Empire.
In the biggest Square the fall began from Tahuantinsuyo when being captured Atahualpa by Francisco Pizarro. This is one of the biggest squares in the country and beautiful of the whole paiz. It is of interest their central monument of the XVIII century. Their ornamental pile was placed in the first years of the XVIII century. It is composed of a central body and of a wide cup octogonal, constituting both parts a stony single piece. It has been restored several times, according to the legends placed to the sides of the cup.
The Temple of Nativity was built in the XVII century and governed by the Jesuits until its expulsion, when it housed to the bethlehemitas. Until the construction of the Regional Hospital in the years forty of the XX century had the only hospitals of the area, of men and of women, located to both sides of the temple. Nowadays there is a medical museum and the whole architectural group is local of the branch of the National Institute of Culture (INC) in Cajamarca.
Recoleta is composed by the temple and for the former Convent of the Franciscan Gathering. It is sober and it shines elegant reed-maces instead of towers.
San Franciso, is in the Square bigger than Cajamarca, it is part of San Francisco's Convent. Carved totally in volcanic rock, it was built in their first stage at the end of the XVII century, as Parish of Indians, and it was concluded with the recent construction of their towers. Adjacent to this Temple the Sanctuary of Dolores' Virgin, Employer of Cajamarca of a special attractiveness for its interior architecture is located carved in volcanic rock. They constitute part of their attractiveness the Museum of Religious Art, Pinacoteca and the Crypts.
In the surroundings they are the Windows of Otuzco, the former cooperative Colpa, and Cumbe May that is characterized by their complex featured hydraulic ceremonial on the rock and marked with petroglifos.
The Pyramid of Layzón is to 2.898 msnm located in the skirt of the hill Sexamayo and it is seat of the intermediate culture Layzón, known by their ceramic products.
Other located ones tourist they are the valley of Porcón, the Windows of Combayo, the Bathrooms of the Inca and the archaeological complex of Kuntur Wasi in San Pablo's county.
The main attractiveness of the city are their bigger Square, the Temple Cathedral, San Francisco's Convent, the Mirador of Santa Apolonia, the Hill Santa Apolonia, Cumbe May, the Room of Rescue, the Temple Recoleta, the Group Monumental Nativity, the Temple of Nativity, Concepción's Temple.
