FOR THE STREETS DE CELENDIN

By means of the real identification of December of 1802, 19 the king Carlos IV approved the creation of Celendín, it granted him/her the title of Villa, it prepared that four people - mayor and regidores - they composed their Town council and it authorized the realization of two annual fairs: August 25 and November 4.

Celendín was not born chaotic, with zigzaging streets, of long and wide irregular. Neither a Spanish city was built on a city Inca pre, like in the case of Cajamarca, for example. And much less for invasion and the construction of improvised housings, like it has happened in the XX century in other places of our country and of the continent.

The peculiarity of Celendín is that it was planned in its conformation of urban structure and with future vision: Today more than 200 years later, conserves its original line and newly it is arriving beside the Big River. It seems to have been thought so that, for their streets, circulate several vehicles, because to the wide thing of anyone of these today could fit three automobiles easily.

Based on manuscripts of 1802, we can affirm with security that in the original plan of Celendín 78 apples were delineated, some were left total or partially free for certain functions. This way for example in the apple 15 were the old (in the country property of Celendín there was a temple) Church and a reserved area for convent; the apple 33 were left for the new Church, (today it corresponds to the Main Church); the apple 34 were completely free for the square, (today is the Square of Weapons); while a part of the apple 35 were reserved for the Town council and the Jail (that is the apple where the Provincial Municipality is).

Each apple was defined like a grid of 100 Castilian sticks in each side. In each one of the apples dedicated to housings eight house" "lots they were traced each one of which it measured 25 for 50 sticks. The celendinos that you/they had received the possession of the three noted country properties above and that they had bought them to prorate, the urban lots were distributed. Rural lots were also distributed in the pampas and other sectors of the former country property of Celendín, vegetable gardens in the valley of Llanguat and pansembrar" "lands in other areas.
