TOURIST ATTRACTIVENESS OF THE COUNTY DE CELENDIN.

Celendín has tourist countless attractiveness, many of which are not very well-known for the tourists, highlight among them:

Thermal bathrooms of Llanguat

Near Celendín, he/she is that of town Llanguat, which is the beginning of a valley with a hotter climate that that of Celendín. Near the river Yangas is a pool and private (basic) wells. The water is medicinal and he/she comes from an ojonal of the other side of the river. The water that comes out of the ojonal for its high temperature seems that it leaves boiling. The mud is of black color and you can use like a cream for the skin. When the water of the river the sufficiently low thing is it can cross the one he/she laughed, and this way to arrive to the ojonal and the mud. If he/she puts on the mud on the skin, it is advisable him not to allow it to dry off for a lot of time, because it is quite difficult of retiring!.

Waterfalls

The county of Celendín has several waterfalls. Many of them single acquaintances for people of the area, some of the waterfalls are Sarauz, Cornello, Pilco and Llangascocha.

The waterfalls of Sarauz

Sarauz is a small community, near Celendín, to more or less an hour and a half in car (that which many times depend on the climate). You can arrive to Sarauz following the slope to Llanguat, to the valley and when you cruze the highway to continue toward the left. When you arrives to the bridge, he/she is the small waterfall, to the left side, following the river. The big waterfall and but beautiful, he/she is following the carretara, ascending to the houses of Sarauz. From there more or less will have to leave the highway and to follow the channel of water. A part of the route is for the hanging bridge. People of the area use it newspaper, but to cross it has her risks. It is an entire challenge, because it is not always in good state. To visit the waterfall, it is better to take a guide. Not alone for the risk of the bridge, but for that the road is not so easy of finding. One can also make the tour in bicycle. The slope until Llanguat is spectacular (more or less 800 meters with many curves), of there the highway follows plan and the final part more or less until Sarauz it is a strong ascent.

Waterfall of Cornello

To arrive to the waterfall of Cornello is the most difficult thing. This waterfall is the good known of the county and it is in a very beautiful area. To arrive there, first one has to travel to Huasmin, with private transport or I publish. From Huasmin a long walk begins that is better to make it with guide.

Waterfall of Pilco

This waterfall is small and not very spectacular, but it can visit one another easily; walking from Celendín. A relaxing walk with a spectacular view of the city.

Waterfall of Llangascocha

The waterfall is small, and easy of visiting from the city of Celendín. A small half-day tour.

Ruins and/or Archaeological Remains.

In Celendín there are ruins and/or archaeological remains, at the moment the good known and accessible are: Chocta - Oxamarca, the Lettuce - Cruzconga, Llaguan and the Cover - Chumuch.

The Ruins of Chocta

Chocta, also well-known as Chulpas, it is near Oxamarca (at 73 km of Celendín, two and a half hours in car, but it depends he/she gives the condition of the highway and the car type). With private transport Chocta can visit one another in only one day. Using transport publishes he/she would have to stay one night in Oxamarca. Chocta is located in a beautiful place, near the summit of a hill in 3000 mts. of height, with a very impressive view. Very below one can see the river around Marañon and the whole picks of the hills. If he/she goes with private transport from Oxamarca it is possible still to ascend a little more for the road. Contrary case, I eat people he/she sometimes says, from the point up to where he/she leaves with car, one still has to walk (and to ascend) enough. If he/she calmly goes, more or less 3 hours (August 2006). From the center of Oxamarca it will be more one hour. But undoubtedly one can make it quicker, if one has a good one physical!. The return is pure slope, two and a half hours like maximum. It is necessary to specify that if he/she leaves with private transport, you can come out of Celendín him but early possible in the morning, to have enough time to walk and to be able to visit this way Chulpas. In Oxamarca he/she can buy himself food and drinks, there are also restaurants, in the road there is not form of acquiring them, because there are not stores.

The Ruins of the Lettuce

The Lettuce is near Cruzconga (at a hour of Celendín in transport publish). You can arrive with private car until very near the ruins. Another option is to lower in Cruzconga and to walk from there. There are two places with very interesting ruins to visit. The first are located in a small hill, near the highway in the town The Lettuce. The second are following the highway, in a new town, The Strength. In The Strength there is a tourist poster with information. The two places are covered with plants, but it is noticed that the ruins are well kept. It can visit one another The Lettuce in one day. With transport I publish or private transport. Very early there is combis that take him/her until Cruzconga in one hour. From there they are two hours walking until the ruins. The first part is gone up, later it follows plan more or less. Another option will be to expect the truck that picks up the milk, from The Lettuce to Cruzconga. To vezes there are also taxis. To return from Cruzconga to Celendín the whole day they pass combis, taxis and buses. In Cruzconga there are a restaurant and a tent. In The Strength there is the possibility to request a menu in the house beside the ruins (he/she asks for Emiterio Cortéz, the is also the suitable person to give information of the ruins).

The Ruins of Llaguan

Llaguan (or Yaguan) is in more or less 2 hours of Celendín in car. There is transport I publish: combis, but alone few. Transport private or a taxi better serious solution to arrive. It is a small town, some houses in a green and beautiful area. There is a small store in Llaguan, but just in case better to take their own food and drink. Lowering from the highway you can arrive in more or less half hour to a rock. A little more below there is an eye of water in a cavern. The water is super cold, but crystalline. Returning to the superior part finds impressive caverns. A part of them is a corridor: one enters on one hand and it leaves for the other side. One can enter until him but deep inside the hill, but it is not known up to where, after a time he/she finishes the I oxygenate, there is no longer enough to continue. Ascending a little more there is a balcony in the rock that follows about 50 meters more or less. It can be bones, and in the caverns also. If it is continued ascending until him but high, you arrives to a mirador with a view of him but impressive.

Forest of Stones

In Celendín this place is known with the name Forest of Stones, but also as Soldiers of Stone. There is a great quantity of enormous rocks in the summit of a hill. Many resemble "soldiers'" figures, of there the name. For this tour a complete day it is needed, preferably in dry time. With transport I publish it is needed more than one day to visit him. One has to travel until Huangashanga, with deprived transport you arrives until the beginning. In the forest the whole time that wants, can walk and if it takes its boxlunch he/she surely found an appropriate place to eat lunch.

Markets

Every weekend there are several markets. The most beautiful thing is the market of the bulls on Sundays. From 9 in the morning people of the area arrive little by little in her traditional (ponchos, hats, skirts in very strong colors) suits to sell her animals. Bulls, cows, sheep, horses etc. after the business there is the possibility to eat a typical lunch: guinea pig and chicha. Not alone in the Square of the market, but also in the streets surrounding there is enough opciónes to take beautiful pictures when people arrive or she already returns to her houses. For those that wake up early there is another market on Sundays that it is worthwhile to visit, between 6 and 7 am: the market of the hats. There it is sold the hats before the finish and the materials to knit them. The hats are famous in the whole Peru and in the exterior!. On Saturdays and Sundays, more in the afternoons, there is also the market of the potatoes. There it is sold potatoes, but also pottages and maïs. The salespersons still weigh the potatoes in a very traditional way. Apart from these there is also the daily market, where it is sold fruits, vegetables, meat, cheeses etc.
