THE WITCHES DE CACHICHE
Cachiche is the name of a town that was synonymous of sorcery from last times for many Peruvians, Cachiche seemed a town of witches, because it housed countless women that in accordance with the iqueños, they possessed supernatural, used powers .segun they said. to extirpate the wrongs of the body and to prepare beverages that guaranteed the couple's love, among other santerías.
The witch but famous of Cachiche it is without place to doubts Julia Hernández Chest Widow of Díaz, a witch that as they count he/she died to the 106 years of age, after a risky life full with spells and charms, but only of the good ones, of those that cure, of those that reconcile hearts. She didn't harm. She was not "malera."
This is what their defenders affirm, their unofficial historians, those that predict a sure return to Cachiche if they are contemplated the eyes of the statue fixedly, those that count - with fright and horror - the apocalyptic and good prophecy of the palm of the seven heads. An evident demonstration - they say - of the supernatural power of doña Julia.
It counts the legend that the witch predicted that Ica will collapse when it grows green the seventh head of the palm that is in the dry lagoon.
And the witch guessed right, because Ica was low the waters in January of 1998. The river overflowed, people's thousands were damaged. People assure that that year not you mochó, neither the seventh head of the palm burned, from that date they have not stopped to make it.
STATUE OF BRASS OF THE WITCH DE CACHICHE
MURAL IN THE HOUSE OF THE WITCH'S BROTHER
I POPULATE OF WITCHES AND SORCERERS
For: Victor Manuel Arches Alvarez
A square of weapons full with sun and sand receives us in Cachiche, the earth of the witches, to ten minutes of the city of Ica. A group of girls plays unworriedly in one of its corners, jumping the rope, we come closer and we ask them for the doctor Goatherd, one of the last faith healers of this town who is about maintaining the tradition that made famous to this town.
One of the girls guides us until the door of a green cottage and then he/she goes away running. We swallow saliva and we knock on the door that, after some minutes he/she opens up slowly, while of the darkness the aged face arises and kind of an old man that invites us to pass to its home, we notice that inside an old huarango tree runs off with.
They are "no longer sorcerers in Cachiche. already nobody follows the tradition", he/she tells us with despair and soft I clear the throat don Victor Goatherd Thorn that next to their wife doña Olinda Arches; it shuffled their aged mallet of Spanish letters.
With a surprising lucidity to their 91 years, don Victor manifests that in his grandparents' times, indeed, the witches existed. They counted him/her that it was such the congestion and negligence in the traffic air brujeril for the nights that could be seen the following tangled day among the huarango trees; to these ladies of the broom, requesting help to the peasants so that they help them to go down to earth.
Don Victor Goatherd said: "All my work is based on the faith: Faith on my behalf to cure and faith on behalf of those that want to be treated.
The honest and humble sorcerer Goatherd, at the beginning worked in the I found Mansilla; of some Arequipeños, which were characterized to be operating, already when going into retirement; Don Victor Goatherd, learned to the art of the faith healing, but the ironic of the destination is that his first reaches of the magic; that there are many it loves, he acquired it of the mother of Mansilla that years but it takes; with the experience of the years, this virtue of the ancestros of Cachiche, don Victor Goatherd polished.
Therefore, approximately to their sixty years it was one of the Legends of Cachiche, retired of the agricultural tasks, our sorcerer Goatherd began little by little to be won the pleasure of own and strange that arrived at his humble home; that without theater of lit candles, it solved them his problems; illnesses or misfortunes, in a deep meditation, a babbling of interrupted words, a hand worn away by the years, leaned on on the heads, some amazed looks, some abnormal sensations flowed inside of their assiduous clients that came from lands very distant Peruvians, Latin, European, etc., they were thanked by our sorcerer's Goatherd virtues. "All is a doctor.... - the clients asked, as act confesito it took their hand from behind out of a curtain -.... what is their will and that God blesses" him. Not he/she knew how to get paid, because it was not greedy.
It was without place to doubt a honest and charismatic character that Cachiche welcomed him as its son.
My father counts me that, as well as don Victor Goatherd Thorn, they had other sorcerers, like one; that for fights with a resident solvent cachichano, for problems of the allotment of water, this last pulled but it dilutes and the sorcerer told him/her you will see, silent you will stay", past a time my father returns to Cachiche and it is greeted with the one affected, and he made it alone through of expressions, indeed the sorcerer completed his threat.
Histories like, that of the sorcerers that transformed into domestic turkeys, but that they flew at night, and they had some wars to death in the air, and passing the stocking night they flew bothering the residents from the air, calling them for their name and laugh to cause fright.
And, other histories like to come from the chacra and in the one on the way to return to Cahiche, you were with an it vacates with their breedings, other times with a bull under a bridge, chance, somebody that you forgetfulness of their animals; not.
Cachiche was small, everybody was known, and all counted its experiences, and other histories but, for example on those shrouded that I will write but it advances, when it arms it beautiful, with publication quality.
Goatherd could with many wrongs, of many people, but she was not able to with a natural design her own ancianidad. It dies in Ica March 05 of the one 2001.
