PARISH SAN JUAN BAPTIST DE CHUPACA
The Main Church Saint John the Baptist, it was sent to build for the curaca Cristóbal Apolaya in 1550 and national declared historical monument in 1943. It was plundered by the Spaniards in 1821 and set on fire by the Chileans in 1882.
The festivities in honor to Saint John the Baptist are carried out in the month of June, among the days 22 and 30.

SHAPIS: IT DANCES WARRING OF HUANCA CHUPACOS
The party of THE CROSSES that is carried out in the month of May, allows to observe this beautiful dance.
SHAPIS, of the 3 at May 8, floods with their coloring and music make happy the streets, neighborhoods and squares of Chupaca. It dances that he/she won't be able to never be; in rigor, executed by those who are not originating of the place that you/they have conserved it for hundred of years. Only the chupaquinos can express through the dance, that makes transcendent that fuses to an entire town heir of a long tradition.
An extraordinary history that the old residents of Chupaca count, inside the origins of the warring dance of SHAPIS. They refer that when the Inca defeated to the great army Wanka, integrated by the armies of the confederate Kingdom, Anco-Huaillo, boss of Wanka-chupacos, refused to give their weapons and to undergo the authority of the Inca. Then you retirá toward Huallaga, going into gradually in the Forest.
And thanks to it, one can know the Region Huarac Tampu, today Huánuco. When returning to their earth, after having been concerted the peace with the Quechua ones, causá admiration and astonishment among his that were received overjoyed.
The dance reaches ciudadanáa at the end of last century in the neighborhood of it "Punctures" and today he/she has extended to the thirteen neighborhoods of Chupaca that year after year is disputed the supremacy.
IT MAKES A CHOREOGRAPHY
The choreography indicates us that it is a warring dance and the figures take special names, as the simple chain, the double chain. In general the dance has three very marked steps:
The humorous part offers it the black ones or leaders who serve from support to the dance, with sarcastic movements making resonate the whip of head skin, provoking the ring.
The shapish takes in the forehead a tassel of plumage called shupash huayta or maiscapacha.
Previously, it was made with plumage of bird called paujil. The current one is of real turkey adorned with mirrors. The face is covered by a red mask with golden mustaches. On the body it takes a tunic called cushma. Intertwined of chest, a wide band made by a great number of seeds, of diverse colors of the Forest, garnished with multicolored feathers of birds, snails and amulets.
They also take a small handbag called huallqui. In the backs they load an elegant layette full with fruits artificial, beautiful dolls and showy tapes that loll in vertical form.
In the left hand, they carry their arrows called huashi and in the right, a stylized axe. Under the mob, the laces of the underpant stand out. They put on shoes new shoes of good sole and taco that favor to the dance.
Those that make of black masquerade with macoras (wide hat of straw), mask of leather black color, I take out, white shirt and tie, leather boots, a tronador in the hands and pant of mounting, also, a ring that you/they make crackle continually behave.
