COMPLEX ARCHAEOLOGICAL THE SORCERER - HUACA THE SORCERER (CUT HUACA)

It is the second more important building of the Archaeological Complex The Sorcerer. It is a pyramid it truncates of staggered built profile with adobes in the time mochica (100 - 750 d.C.) and contemporary with the huaca Old Cao. It measures 103 meters long for 98 meters wide and 22 meters high. It is located in the northwest sector to some 500 meters of distance of the pyramid of Old Cao occupying an approximate area of 10,000 square meters. It takes the name of Huaca The Sorcerer, but it seems a cut huaca, because in the center of their south facade there is a long, wide and deep court (45 meters long for 5 of wide) that almost it divides it in two. This court was made in uncertain time after the Spanish conquest of Peru (XVI century), almost without place to doubts, with the purpose of looking for treasures in its interior.

The archaeologists of the Archaeological Complex Project The Sorcerer has taken advantage of this great court to study this pyramid finding a constructive long sequence that is reflected in a progressive growth in his three dimensions: long, wide and high. Nevertheless the remodelings, the manufacturers took care of always using the architectural same model, I rip characteristic of the design mochica.

The same as other pyramids mochicas, the technique used to make grow the volume of this building consisted on stuffing the enclosures and spaces open with Blocks of Schemed Adobe, on those that the new enclosures and open spaces rose. In total 5 remodelings have been identified, called Building TO, B, C, D and AND. The Building B of Huaca The Sorcerer corresponds, chronologically, to the Building C of Old Cao, likewise, the Building TO of Huaca The Sorcerer corresponds to the time of the Buildings TO and B of Huaca Old Cao.

Taking advantage of the great court of the south facade a frieze was located that would be decorating a wall of a meter of thickness in the Ceremonial Patio in the summit corresponding to the constructive well-known stage as Building D. The represented reason is possibly a fish "Life" (Trichomyc terus sp.) represented as a drawing of a being with long body and heads in both orderly ends inside diagonal panels of 1.46 meters wide. Another ornamental frieze in the Ceremonial same Patio was made on the north wall, there he/she repeats the same reason but in vertical panels. The used colors are the yellow, red, white, gray and black.

The technique used for the elaboration of these friezes is the same one used in most of the friezes of the pyramid of Old Cao: First were placed a thick layer of mud on the wall to decorate, then the design was traced and later on the image was soaked. Finally it was plastered with a fine layer and color was applied.

The pyramids of Huaca Old Cao and Huaca The Sorcerer was the most important buildings for Mochicas in the valley of Chicama (north of Peru), like center of the power and the religion in his time, nowadays The Archaeological Complex the Sorcerer is one of the most important from Peru, like center of the archaeological main investigations, reason of pride and center of attraction for the visitors of the world.
