COUNTY DE TAMBOPATA
Tambopata shows up as a territory fed by big courses of water that they sustain an important biodiversity. Of there that it has more than enough their territory they are the Reserved Area of Tambopata-Candamo and the National Park Bahuaja-Sonene, both defined by the river The Tower, flowing of Tambopata.
Port Maldonado, capital of the county and of the department and the main city of the Peruvian suroriente, it is located in the fork of the rivers Mother of God and Tambopata, to about 177 m.s.n.m. It was founded in the XIX century by Juan Álvarez Maldonado. He/she saw pass to the caucheros of Manú who crossed the region in search from an exit route to the coast, the one that finally opened up in the fork of the rivers Tambopata and Távara, and that it continued for Puno and Arequipa to Pacific.
Maldonado shows up today like an active city and in frank growth, hurried by the Andean migration to the department. Much of their activity rotates around the trade, the fine woods and the auriferous extraction, carried out intensely in the rivers Inambari, Colorado, Malinowsqui and flowing. Also, the area possesses the biggest forests in chestnut of the country, a resource of great importance in the regional economy. For some years, the tourist economy also takes more and more importance in the global economy of the department and of its capital.
From Port Maldonado you can arrive by surface mail to Cusco and Puno going by Inambari, Mazuko and Quincemil. It is about a difficult highway for the topography and the climate of the region that it becomes almost impassable in time of rain. This road is at the moment in complete transformation, in the perspective of the next opening of the Transoceanic Highway.
In Tambopata not everything rotates around the departmental capital and of the rivers bordering. A wide territory of the county has very little access to her, with flowing small rivers of that of The Stones and of Pariamanu and it is populated fundamentally for indigenous native of ethnic different groups, being the most important Ese'ejas, Amahuacas, Kichwarunas, Shipibos, several of the linguistic group of Harakmutis (Amarakaeris, Sapiteris, Pukirieris, Arasaeris, Toyeris) and Iñaparis.
