COUNTY DE TAHUAMANU
The county of Tahuamanu is located in the northeastern end of the department, it limits to the northwest with Ucayali and to the north and east with the republics of Brazil and Bolivia. The county of Tahuamanu has three districts (Iberia, Iñapari and Tahuamanu).
Tahuamanu includes the entirety of the basin of the river Tahuamanu and Muymanu, besides part of those of Chandless and Purús whose waters end in Brazilian territory. It crosses the county the Transoceanic highway that leaves from Port Maldonado, it crosses the towns of Alert, Mavila, Iberia and Iñapari and that it will unite in some years Atlantic and Pacific. In the rest of the county, little populated in general, amazon diverse ethnic groups remain, as Yoras, Piros, Amahuacas, Kichwarunas, some of them stay voluntarily isolated and without contact with the rest of population of the department. They largely live according to their traditional form of life, contained in small communities, some seminómades that hunt, fishes, they gather and they cultivate yucca and other foods.
