OMATE


Valley of Omate

To 147 km to the north of the city of Moquegua (6 hours in car); and to 129 km to the southeast of the city of Arequipa (4 hours in car).

This valley is located in the Western Mountain range of Andes, between snowy Goylanto and Paylogen and the hills Junín and Hill Blanco. Their capricious orography is the result of the volcanic intense activity that was developed in the area, just as they demonstrate it the banks of volcanic material that cover it. One can observe wide variety of birds like doves, eagles, vulture and condors in the highest parts, while in the area of the river Omate is crustaceans like the shrimp. At the moment, their 17 populated centers are devoted to the fruticultura and, in smaller scale, to the cattle raising.

I Temper Parochial San Linen of Omate

Square of Weapons. Visits: L-S 8:00-18:00.
Construction of adobe of the XVIII century, possesses an altar bigger than Baroque style, carved in wood and golden with bread of gold; the smallest altars are of style classic neo. He/she also has a clock solar engraving in stone and an artistic custody of silver of the XIX century.

Mr. of the Pities

Miraculous image of the Mr. of the Pities, correspondent from Spain for the Emperor Carlos V. The image is subject to the cross with four nails (two in the hands and two in the feet that are not crossed). At the moment it is in the Temple Parochial San Linen of Omate.

Hydraulic mills of Omate

These mills of calcareous stone moved by water are in the high part of Villa of Omate, where the wheat was milled to elaborate the famous "bread of Omate" from the XIX century.
