LIBERAL CLUB DE PAITA

The Liberal Club located in Jr. Jorge Chávez 161, Paita, is a true jewel of the Buenos Aires architecture. In her you cuentra that Julio Ramón Ribeyro traveling their balconies was inspired for their story "A medal for Virginia." In the war of Pacific, the Chileans took possession of the club and they established their center of operations there.

An extracted narration of http://www.carlosmartinezrenedo.com/amigos/padreperu.htm, is the one that better it describes the Liberal Club, contrary case; you look at the pictures: "At twelve in the morning we were in a social old club of Paita, the Liberal that we loved for their authenticity. The colonial building fell of old. The frayed furniture, the squares and mirrors of the destartalado living room were in a calamitous state, but an elegant style Art Decó" was evidenced. The access stairway, wide, with a balustered handrails, indicated the dignity that should have that society in some time. The hygienic services were as of last century. The griferías had lost everything chromed and they allowed to see a rancid brass, refined of so many chafings. However that calamitous local had a terrace on the port that was an authentic marvel. The terrace was covered, leaving open the frontal and the lateral ones, but these last closed partially for kind of a vertical hurdle that gave shade and it allowed to pass the air. In the roof those typical fans of vegetable crosses that contributed to the local a tropical, but at the same time fresh and reparative atmosphere worked. A waiter añoso and tiny, adorned with a white very professional chaquetilla, at the same time that it served us some fresquísimas beers, he/she spoke to us of that that, in times, it had been that club. He/she spoke to us of the parties of year end, of the white suits of linen and cotton, of the pisco and the rum that you/they ran generously and he/she also spoke to us, with certain voluptuousness, of the tall, brown and splendid women of those come magnates from all America. Of their dresses with steering wheels and of their flight skirts, of their silk shawls and of their magnificent backs. Then it was danced mambo and meringue until the dawn and he/she had breakfast in the fished fried beach and varied shellfish. I listened absorbed and it was transported to John's novel Him Carré. The Liberal of Paita was a landmark in our trip. There we are very well and the waiter was rewarded in proportion to the charm of his narrations. That hour he/she tasted us like glory."
