THE RIVER CHIRA


The river Chira is a river of the slope of Pacific, located to the south of Ecuador and north of Peru.

It forms the frontier between both countries until the gulch of Alamor, and starting from there it enters to the Peruvian territory. The city of Sullana, in Peru, it is located next to this river.

The river Chira is an international river, and its basin has an area of total drainage of 19.095 km² until their outlet; of this total 7.162 km² is in Ecuador, and 11.933 square km in Peru. Their humid basin is of approximately 9.500 km².

The river is born in the Western Mountain range of Andes to more than 3.000 m with the river name Catamayo, and after traveling 150 km he/she unites with the river he/she will Rot where he/she takes the river name Chira, 50 km travels, in the limit between Peru and Ecuador until meeting with the river Alamor continuing in the address south-west in Peruvian territory until its outlet in the sea, after having traveled 300 km approximately. The longitude of the river Chira is of 168 km and the 300 kms they correspond to the system Chira-Catamayo.
