Fué created by Law of the Republic, December 20 of 1856.

PACHÍA is the capital of the district of the same name; it is located 1095 m.s.n.m., their geographical location is to the Nor-this of the city of Tacna and dista of her 17.6 km.

The climate is pleasant, temperate and constant, it can be considered to PACHíA like climatic station of first order for the convalescence of bronchial, marshy illnesses and tíficas; for that that the popular natural genius the flame "Small Chosica Tacneña."

The town is distribuído throughout a central street, it possesses a plazoleta, two schools, a magnificent temple, where San José's image, pattern of the town is worshipped.

The lands that surround to the town are fertilísimas and in them varied plants are cultivated. They are famous, maybe only in the country, their load" "zapallos that they are cultivated in the place.

Simply, as the zapallo of PACHÍA, there is not another equally. Technical specialists in agriculture have treated the matter with obstinate interest; the seed of that pepular zapallo, processed fué as it orders the technique, being about obtaining the same production quality in other earth towns and climate looks. The fruit has obtained it; but never never the quality neither the characteristics very characteristic of the zapallo highly taken place in PACHíA.

Also in PACHÍA, the earth of the transparent sky and the splendid sun, their classic corn of quick growth is because the provocative choclos are already to the three months. It is about a variety that is also very characteristic of the place; a gramineous one entirely precocious, product of the floor feraz of that earth that shines their festooned hills of happiness with their zapallares plantations, pepper, corn and their vineyards, as well as the typical vilcas with the arrogance of their wonderful frond. PACHÍA has a history sugerente; the town was founded after Kind. In times of Mayta Capac and Wiracocha, arrived to the place the mitimaes "keswas."

In the twilights of the virreynato and at the beginning of the republic, PACHíA acquired great importance, because it was the center of an assets trade with the highland and with the north of Argentina.

In the risky days of the war of Pacific, many neighbors of PACHíA signed up in the lines defenders of the national territory.

PACHíA, brave earth, fué place that covered to the Great Marshal's illustrious figure Ramón Castile who August of 1843, 29 in the vicinity of that legendary town, defending the National Constitution, it defeated to the forces of General Vivanco; then, together with the Marshal Domingo Grandson, the temporary Government of the Departments Free of the South of Peru settles down that had a fleeting duration; of this way, PACHíA, for a capital urging fué of Peru, for illustrious expressed will of two and military patriots, with national genuine representation.

After the battle of the Field of the Alliance, PACHíA fué the center of the resistance and of the guerrilla colonel's forays Gregorio Albarracín Nieves, "The Centaur of Vilcas" and Luis Pacheco of Grass "The Cuban."

In fact in PACHíA he/she took place the combat between Pacheco's troops and Chilean troops, November of 1883, 11 being conquering those of Pacheco who, however, oppressed by the number of the reinforcements of the opponent coming from Tacna, you vió forced to retire toward the high lands of Tarata, Ticaco and Candarave.

The word PACHíA, is derived of the voices aymaras "PAYA", two, and "CHíA", to rip, to divide; that is to say, "Division of the Road." The earthquake that August 13 1868 razed this south region of the native territory, brought for earth the beautiful temple of the town of PACHíA, situation that filled from deep consternation to its laborious neighborhood that was driven then by the priest's Spanish Salvador compassionate feelings Palacios Brina who spilling fé in Christ, he/she made formal promise of its congregation of erecting a new temple, with the will and effort of the whole town.

The father Salvador Palacios that had been in PACHíA for four years, when it happened that telluric lamentable misfortune, he/she had been born in the city of Alcira in 1817, town to the one that never more it returned, since February 22 1898, to the advanced 81 year-old age, it died in PACHíA, where always fué considered as one of the children of the place and where the neighborhood, in their memory, it has placed a brass badge in the door of the Church that fué works of its best dedication.

The church with which at the moment bill that historical town in whose sacred enclosure with Christian deep fé is worshipped the Great Patriarch San José, is that illustrious priest's work that faithful to its promise, he/she erected the new temple, with the effort and the firm decision of the whole town pachieño that in an and another form, he/she contributed to lift the sacred new enclosure, under the mentioned clergyman's indefatigable activity that supply was given to work in the construction, to offer attention to the sick persons and for the ends of its religious sacred mission.

Two years after initiate their construction, the town of PACHíA, it was already shining again the elegant mansion of God that inaugurated fué and blessed in 1870, I temper that today it constitutes the Parish of that town distrital. The inauguration of this church that synthesizes the strength of a deeply believing town, was fulfilled arrests of great solemnity, motivating the concurrence of the most distinguished personalities in Tacna.
