THE RIVER KNOCKS DOWN


The river Knocks down, one of those bigger than the Peruvian coast, is born in the Andean buttresses of Ecuador, in the mountains of Zaruma, with a total journey of 180 km. and in Peruvian territory of 130 km. Their basin colectora has a squared dear area of 5,656 kilometer, of those which 1,885 km2 approximately is in Peruvian territory.

The volume of discharge annual average is of 3,928 million mts. cubic that locates it in second place after the River Santa. The absolute maxims reached them in the avenues of April of 1965, 12 and February 13 1998 with 4,558 m3/seg and 2,500 m3/seg respectively, pruduciendo big floods, their discharge régime in low water varies of 10 - 30 m3/seg and in time of growing surpasses the 400 m3/seg. The months of March and April are those of maxim it discharges and those of October and November those of minimum.
